📺 Project Vision Glen Iris Elementary has launched a student-led Morning News Broadcast, streamed into classrooms each day. Serve Day 2025 will bring this dream to life by transforming an existing room into a functional, spirited, and exciting news studio that promotes student voice, leadership, and creativity. 🧱 Goals for the Space Create a clean, engaging backdrop for student broadcasts Organize the space with designated zones (anchor desk, tech table, backdrop) Equip students with tools and a professional yet kid-friendly atmosphere Add school branding, color, and fun design features to inspire confidence on camera 🛠️ Room Tasks & Setup Areas Room Painting & Wall Prep Paint walls in calming neutral or studio-friendly tones Create accent wall or space for signage (Gator Green/Yellow or red/white contrast) Anchor Desk Area Set up a rainbow-shaped news desk or gently curved anchor desk Provide two chairs or stools Add microphones or prop equipment for realism Decor & Branding Add Glen Iris Gator logo and school name in background Bulletin board with photos of news crew Motivational posters or framed sayings (e.g., “You Have a Voice!”) Wardrobe Station Provide blazers for newscasters (adult sizes to fit over uniforms): 3 Adult Small 1 Adult Medium 1 Adult Large 1 Adult XL Coat rack or hooks to hang them Lighting & Atmosphere Use soft LED lighting or ring lights for better on-camera clarity Consider blackout curtain if lighting adjustment is needed Tech/Editing Table (if space allows) Small desk or table for camera setup or laptop editing station Surge protector or cord organizer 📦 Requested Materials & Donations Paint & painting tools (wall color TBA) Rainbow-shaped or modern desk (kid-sized or adjustable) Six adult-size blazers (S–XL) for on-air attire Glen Iris banner or logo decal Bulletin board & pins Inspirational signs or wall decals LED lights or ring light 2 chairs or stools Clothing rack or coat hooks Optional: faux plant, rug, or backdrop curtain Optional: tripod or student-use camera 👥 Volunteer Skills Needed Painting and light furniture assembly Room layout creativity Decor hanging or decal application Willingness to follow a creative vision in collaboration with school leadership 🧭 Leadership Notes Project leader will work with media advisor or school point-of-contact Sub-leader can help manage setup of zones Student feedback and excitement are welcomed as we build this new learning space!
