🛠️ Serve Day 2025 – Glen Iris Elementary Construction & Light Repair Team 🏗️ Project Vision This team will provide light construction, structural support, and installation assistance in key areas of the campus. While our tasks are limited to what is school-approved and safe for volunteer teams, our efforts will bring needed order and function to outdoor and shared spaces. 🔨 Planned Construction Projects PE Equipment Storage Buildout Construct or assemble a small storage area or rack for organizing PE balls, cones, and jump ropes Ensure structure is weather-resistant if outdoors or neatly placed if indoors Garden Area Fencing Install or repair a low-profile fence around the front garden area Fence should define space and prevent trampling, not enclose or obstruct views Sensory Gazebo Safety Fence (if approved) Add a small barrier or edging around the gazebo pond or flower beds Child-safe materials only (no sharp edges or trip hazards) Wall Mounting Projects (Main Hall Level) Hang lightweight bulletin boards, inspirational signs, framed art, or dry-erase boards Install coat hooks or command shelving in teacher/student shared spaces (only in approved areas) Secure Loose Fixtures or Outdoor Structures Check and tighten railings, gates, or benches as needed 📦 Requested Materials 2x4 or 2x2 wood slats for simple storage rack Wood screws, nails, brackets, and hardware Plastic/wood fencing panels or rolls Zip ties, metal ties, or ground stakes Drill, screwdrivers, small hammer Level, measuring tape, step ladder Mounting hardware (anchors, wall-safe screws) Safety gloves, goggles, and cleanup bags 🧑🔧 Volunteer Skills Needed Basic carpentry or handyman skills Ability to use power drills, hammers, measuring tools Comfort with building light-weight storage or fencing Familiarity with school-safe hanging practices Creativity in solving small problems on the spot 🧭 Leadership & Limitations All construction and mounting will be approved in advance by the school leader or Serve Day site coordinator. Volunteers will follow safety guidelines and work under the direction of the Construction Sub-Leader, with flexibility for adjusting plans based on weather, materials, or school input.
